Overmountain Victory Commemoration

All Day
Sat, Sep 12, 2026
Museum of North Carolina Minerals

This year marks the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of

Independence. Freedom 250 commemorations like ours focus on the founding of

the United States and the stories which make up our shared history. In September

of 1780, militia from North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia came marching from

“over the mountains” to defeat British Major Patrick Ferguson’s forces at the Battle

of Kings Mountain. This victory turned the tide of the American Revolution in the

Patriots favor. Re-enactors will demonstrate traditional crafts and skills such as

cartridge rolling, spinning, candle making, and take time to learn about what made

this campaign unique.

Musket firing demonstrations will take place at 11 am and 1 pm.
