Agritourism is a type of experiential travel, focusing on a lived experience or adventure within the agricultural world. Agritourism includes Fruit/Flower picking, volunteer work at a farm or food nonprofit, Farm Tours, Educational visits, and agricultural workshops.

Here in McDowell County, we have over 28 farms listed with the Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project, and several farms that actively participate in ASAP's yearly farm tours or host experiential tours of their own.

Agritourism is also a more eco-friendly and immersive way to travel, allowing you to experience farm life, meet local people, see ‘off the beaten track’ locations and enjoy your destination from a different perspective. Agritourism can open our eyes to more sustainable practices, and appreciate rural regions that are often overlooked.

As farm tours rise in popularity, we are actively growing our expanding list of regional farmers that help feed folks in our foothills and beyond.
