Join us for the Micropolitan Film Festival 2025 at the Marion Train Depot on Saturday, September 6th, from 2 PM to 8 PM! The event kicks off with a free screening of "Stranger with a Camera," a thought-provoking 2000 documentary by Elizabeth Barret that examines the 1967 murder of filmmaker Hugh O'Connor in Kentucky while he recorded the experiences of rural Appalachian communities. Delving into themes of media representation and exploitation, Barret raises questions about the power and responsibility of documentary filmmaking. Following the screening, a discussion led by Dr. Jordan Laney will engage filmmakers and creatives in exploring these critical issues. After a dinner break, the festival will resume at 5 PM with more short film screenings. For tickets to the evening's events, visit mcdowellarts.org/mff. This screening is part of the Beyond 1842 Project, an initiative focused on sharing authentic local narratives (www.beyond1842.org). Don't miss this opportunity to engage with important stories and discussions!
