Prison Banned Books Talk & Discussion at Bigfoot Books & Brews

Join us for a special afternoon at Bigfoot Books & Brews featuring an engaging talk and book signing with Asheville-based author and educator Dr. Mac Marquis, alongside Julian from the Asheville Prison Books program. Dr. Marquis, a Founding Documents Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of South Carolina and a passionate advocate for literature, will share insights into the importance of access to books, particularly for incarcerated individuals. Julian, a former inmate and dedicated volunteer with Asheville Prison Books since 2018, will discuss his personal experience reading over 200 books while incarcerated and his commitment to defending free speech and literature access. Additionally, the event will include a book donation drive for Asheville Prison Books, encouraging attendees to contribute to the wishlist for incarcerated individuals in western North Carolina.
