The Western North Carolina Railroad was constructed between 1876 to 1879, with most of the labor being provided by inmates from all over North Carolina. Dr. Dan Pierce and Mayor Steve Little will be presenting March 5th on the RAIL Project, short for Railroad and Incarcerated Laborers. The RAIL Project is a joint effort between historians and community members to recognize and memorialize the laborers who built the railroad from Old Fort to Ridgecrest. ***Event at the Old Fort Depot***
